WHERE TO DONATE USED BEDDING

Got a used bedding set for sale? You might come out better finding out where to donate used bedding. And I’m not just referring to the warm and fuzzy feeling or spiritual lift you get by making a donation. Financially speaking, it might be wiser to donate your used blankets, quilts and comforters than to sell them on Ebay or at your next garage sale.

For one thing there are those pesky seller’s fees that come out of your profit. You have to pay a percentage of your selling price and that’s bad enough but even if your item doesn’t sell there is a listing fee that must be paid.

Another sad fact is that no matter how "gently used" your old comforter may be, chances are that once all the charges are paid that you will be lucky to realize a few cents on the original dollar that you paid unless the collection is still very popular AND has a designer label. Even if you sell it in your own yard with no extra charges, we all know how dismal the prices you get for your used stuff can be.

When you make a donation rather than offer your used bedding for sale you can deduct the amount of the donation from your income taxes. Do the math and you may find that doing something nice for the needy pays off. As far as where to donate used bedding, check with your local emergency services and they probably have some names and numbers of homeless shelters that would love to take your nice, warm bedding off your hands.

If it’s a tax deduction that you’re after, when shopping for where to donate used bedding be sure to ask if they will give you a receipt. Oh, and if you don’t have a used comforter or quilt on hand homeless shelters are happy to take a check or cash donation and that may also help out on your taxes.
